FAYETTEVILLE COURTHOUSE

Precinct 2 Courthouse on Historic Town Square - Built in 1880-the old jail still exists on the second floor complete with leg irons!-the first court was held on February 17, 1881. A calaboose was added in 1887 and the bandstand gazebo built in 1932. The town clock tower was erected and the four-faced Seth Thomas Clock installed in 1934 for the Texas Centennial and still strikes on the hour and the half-hour, making Fayetteville the smallest town with a striking four-faced town clock. On the Square's southeast corner, the Picnic Oak tree is over 100 years old.

FAYETTEVILLE PICKING PARK

ACOUSTIC JAMMING ON THE SQUARE - The jams are held on the Courthouse Square on the second Saturday of every month. Acoustic jamming is welcome in the park day and night. Beginner jams occur earlier in the day.

FAYETTEVILLE AREA HERITAGE MUSEUM

The history of the Fayetteville area is on display at the Fayetteville Area Heritage Museum. The Museum is the home of the Teddy Schultz Model Trains and Railroad Collection and many other artifacts of the good ol’ days including the historic altar from the original St. John’s Catholic Church (removed for rebuilding in 1969), the pipe organ from St. Mary’s Catholic Church, pre-historic bones & arrowheads, a cotton gin, the Dawn Theater’s movie projector, a fire engine pump, and assorted farm equipment. Memorabilia from the Baca Band is also displayed as well as that from numerous local schools, civic organizations, elected officials, etc. Located on the Historic Square and open by appointment, tours welcome.

FAYETTE LAKE

Located four miles west of Fayetteville on Hwy 159, Fayette Lake boasts fabulous bass fishing. The lake has been stocked with species of fish including catfish, large-mouth bass, and sunfish. Boating and fishing are both popular recreations on the lake along with swimming and some water sports. The Lake is accessed by two parks: Park Prairie and Oak Thicket Park both at the lake's north end. * Park Prairie: paved parking, restrooms, boat ramp, camping sites, fishing pier, boat docks, swimming area and picnic sites. Fee. Reservations: 979/249-3344. * Oak Thicket Park: paved camping sites with RV hookups and water, restrooms, boat ramp, fishing pier, nature trails and a pavilion. Fees. Reservations: 979/249-3504.
