PAT JOHNSON

Pat Johnson is an artist based in Fayetteville, Texas. Her career as a ceramic sculptor spans over 40 years. Johnson received her BFA from North Texas State University. Johnson’s works reveal personal narratives that often address political and social issues. She describes her work as an attempt to unveil her fears and desires, revealing the fine line between humor and sadness, right and wrong, the seen and unseen. She has been featured in many exhibitions including the 2004 juried CraftHouston traveling exhibit organized by the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft and the 2013 NCECA conference exhibitions which took place throughout Houston. Her work has frequently been included in the Ceramic National Competition at the San Angelo Museum of Art. In 2014 she was selected to participate in The 35th Annual Contemporary Craft Exhibition at the Mesa Contemporary Arts Museum in Arizona, the 56th Annual Delta Exhibition at the Arkansas Art Center and the Texas Craft Biennial at the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft. Her work is included in the Lark Books publications, 500 Tiles and 500 Figures, Vol.II Johnson’s work was featured at Galveston Arts Center in 1996 and she has taught summer classes for youth at GAC.

MARY QUIROS Mary is a native of Laredo, Texas, which influences her work. The vibrant colors of this border culture explode in her work, whether in watercolor or acrylic. Though she often mixes other media, she states that there is such a harmony between watercolor and the creative process, that it is a joy to work with it. Mary’s eyes guide her art. She draws from the small blossom, the obscure window and the silence of a silhouette.

In 1977, after painting in oils and acrylics for 7 years, Mary found fluidity of expression in watercolor. Though she often mixes other media, she states that there is such a harmony between watercolor and the creative process, that it is a joy to work with it.

Mary’s watercolors have been exhibitied in Texas, Colorado, South Carolina, Missouri and Kansas, as well as a show at the Contemporary Museum of Modern Art in Nigata, Japan. She was featured in the Texas Watercolor Society publication “Fifty Years of Excellence” and the summer edition of Watercolor Magazine, both 1999 editions. The Laredo Center for the Arts exhibited her works in a “one woman” show in 1998, 2002, 2004, and 2007. In 2003, Mary was juried into the 13th edition of the “Encyclopedia of Living Artists” in America and in 2005 the 14th Edition of Living Artists. Another work, “Mariposas” was published in a North Light Book for artists entitled “Splash 8”.

Mary is a signature member of Texas Watercolor Society with Sage Brush status Watercolor USA and Southwestern Watercolor Society and Kansas Watercolor Society and Houston Watercolor Society.
